Meet Matt Wahl

Matt Wahl has spent more than 30 years working in the insulation and building-performance industry. His experience extends far beyond estimating or consulting. He has installed insulation, managed crews, built insulation companies, overseen large-scale operations and tested the completed performance of more than 1,800 homes.

Matt was previously a co-owner of Rocket Insulation, where he helped build and operate a high-volume insulation company serving Long Island. His responsibilities covered every side of the business—including estimating, sales, material selection, field production, crew development, equipment, logistics, quality control and overall company operations. That experience gave him a practical understanding of what it takes to produce consistent insulation work in the field, not just specify it on paper.

In 2009, Matt founded Energy Rating Service, Inc. Today, as a RESNET Certified HERS Rater, he works with builders, architects, mechanical contractors and homeowners to evaluate how the entire home will perform as one connected system. His services include HERS and ERI ratings, energy modeling, blower-door testing, duct-leakage testing, ventilation verification and building-envelope analysis.

Matt later founded Foam House Insulation, Inc. to bring installation and building science together under one standard. Foam House approaches insulation as a complete building-envelope system—not simply a product installed between the framing. Every project considers insulation type, air control, moisture movement, HVAC design, ventilation, constructability and final verified performance.

While Foam House has extensive experience with spray polyurethane foam, Matt does not believe that one insulation product is appropriate for every home. His work also includes fiberglass, mineral wool, natural sheep-wool insulation, intelligent vapor-control membranes and advanced air-sealing systems. The right material is selected for the assembly, the building conditions and the performance goals of the project.

Through decades of field experience, Matt has developed installation procedures, quality-control standards and crew-training systems centered on RESNET insulation-grading requirements. This work has evolved into the Foam House Standard: a practical approach to insulation built around three principles:

Science • Craftsmanship • Performance

Matt specializes in high-performance new residential construction throughout Long Island and the Hamptons. His role is to help project teams make informed building-envelope decisions, coordinate those decisions with the energy model and verify that the completed home performs as intended.

His perspective is straightforward: insulation performance should never be based on assumptions. It should be properly designed, carefully installed, thoroughly inspected and proven through testing.
